Smoking Wood Fuel

0845 4660284

Arborworks Ltd, working in association with Smoking Wood Supplies can produce and supply smoking wood fuels from a variety of locally sourced, British hardwoods and Fruit woods. The products are graded into several sizes to suit different requirements and available either by post or personal collection from our yard.

Wood was the original fuel used by man and as such the most important. Our ancestors used it for cooking food as well as warmth and it is still the primary cooking fuel in many parts of the world. Today we mostly use wood fuel outside during the summer months for barbeque cooking, as charcoal, and for adding flavour to fish, chicken, meat or sausages through smoking.

Arborworks Ltd, in association with Smoking Wood Supplies, produces smoking wood fuel in several sizes, each suitable for different applications.

Chunks - Rough cut pieces, cricket ball sized by volume, although not in shape (!). These can be used to generate heat as well as smoke. A sufficient source of heat must already be present before the chunk can be added to impart additional flavour.
Chips - Rough cut but much smaller. These are not large enough to generate sufficient heat for cooking and are generally used to create sufficient smoke to impart flavour. It is usual to soak the pieces of wood for several hours prior to use before sprinkling them over an already established heat source. They will hiss and simmer, generating the required smoke. If using on a gas barbeque it can be useful to wrap the soaked chips in a double layer of aluminium foil and puncture this several times with a fork just before adding to the fire.
Shavings - This is basically a fine grade of sawdust or small shavings that is best used to generate smoke in a pan over a heat source or in a separate smoke box. The shavings smoulder and give off smoke which is drawn across the food.
